SECO/WARWICK’s equipment for melting aluminium and other non-ferrous metals are offered in three configurations, mainly stationary and Tilting Reverbatory, Rotary Melting and Tilting Barrel.

Reverb furnaces are direct-fired, open hearth furnaces used for melting or holding non-ferrous metal. Applications for the reverb furnace include melting sows, solids and scrap along with alloying the molten metal before casting into usable forms. These furnaces provide the casting station operator maximum control over the delivery of molten metal to the casting machine. The rate of molten metal flow can be immediately increased or decreased by a convenient push button control, or automatically by a launder metal level sensor. The control of the pour is positive at all times. On tilting furnace applications, SECO/WARWICK’s proprietary rotary pour spout replaces the tap block, reducing maintenance to a very minimum.

Reverberatory furnaces are the principal means used for melting aluminium. Such furnaces are refractory lined vessels that typically employ natural gas fired burners. Heat transfer is primarily from the flame to the roof and, to a lesser extent, the side walls of the furnace and then to the melt.

Advancements in oxygen-air-fuel burners coupled with improved insulation, refractories and sensors and control systems have the potential to reduce fuel demands, improve production rates, reduce green house gas and NO2 emissions.

Aluminium Rotary Melting

The SCRAP MANAGER line of tiling rotary furnaces has been modularized to reduce cost and delivery time. The furnace can be fired with oil, natural gas or oxy-fuel burners utilizing a double pass firing scheme that maximizes the heat transfer from the heat source to the bath. The refractory design has been refined through operational experience to provide exceptional performance in the most aggressive environments. Flexibility in the design allows repairs and relines to be completed faster and safer than common industry practices. The control and combustion safety system meets all current safety requirements. The automation and data logging system can be customized to individual customer needs.

Tilting barrel SECO/WARWICK tilting barrel furnaces are designed employing the natural advantages of an arch configuration to provide a compact melting furnace that is both productive and economical. The self-supporting steel shell and refractory lining offers the greatest resistance to thermal expansion or motion distortion. This design produces improved heat transfer for faster melting rates. By rotating the entire furnace chamber on its base, controlling pouring is achieved without the need for complicated equipment.
